MULTI AIRCRAFT CANOPY CRANE This performance description states performance requirements for a multiairframe crane that is used to installreplace multiple components on various fighter aircraft REQUIREMENTS Physical Characteristics Weight The weight of the crane including all components systems and assemblies shall not exceed 2000 pounds Dimensions Operating The size of the crane shall not exceed 22 long X 22 wide X 216 high in the operating mode These dimensions are necessary for operation and maintenance in a hardened aircraft shelterTAB VEE First generation second generation and third generation aircraft shelters as well as outside in ambient conditions Shipping The crane shall not exceed 9 long X 7 wide X 8 high in the shipping mode Shipping mode is when the crane is being transported from one base to another by a flat bed trailer or by air Service Life The crane shall be designed to have a minimum service life of twenty 20 years in operational service FUNCTIONAL CHARACTERISTIC Aircraft Interface The crane shall be capable of removing and installing all specified equipment on all models for the following airframes A10 HH60 F15 F16 F22 F117 and T38 The crane shall be capable of being used with Type B1 Type B4 and Type C1 maintenance stands without requiring the moving of stands away from the aircraft during usage The crane shall have boom rotation that allows removal and installation of items on the aircraft without unlocking the base assembly casters and repositioning the crane at the aircraft Rotation The crane shall be designed to have 360 degree rotation of the boom about its vertical axis under operating load The crane shall be able to removeinstall and unloadload items without repositioning the crane Adjustable boom height The crane shall be designed to operate with the boom in two positions The maximum height shall be 216 and the lower boom height shall be 15 Outriggers The crane shall be designed to have extendable outriggers for crane stability and safe operation At least one outrigger leg shall not be higher than 8 inches high when it is extended therefore allowing the crane to be operated under airframes with low clearance Wheels Wheels shall be of the type that will absorb vibration while crane is transported pneumatic tires or spring loaded casters Wheels will need to be able to transport crane when it is in its transport and operational mode All wheels shall have accessible wheel brakes operated by handfoot Leveling Adjustments The crane shall be designed to have the capability for stabilizing and leveling the crane during usage to accommodate various deformations and uneven surfaces A 10 inch travel shall be located on each outrigger Leveling adjustments shall be able to support weight of crane when it is fully loaded Winch The crane shall be equipped with twospeed mechanical winchhoist mechanism one speed for rapid hook position and a second speed for precise hoisting of the load The winch shall include a brake that engages automatically upon releases of the winch handle and is capable of stopping and holding a maximum load without slippage Within a distance of one half 12 inch while lifting or lowering a load Design and proof load The crane shall be designed to have a rated lifting capacity of 1500 pounds The load used to initiate and test the design of the crane shall be based on the rated lifting capacity multiplied by a factor of 125 or 1875 pounds Towbar The crane shall be equipped with a towbar having a lunette eye with a 3inch diameter opening The towbar shall be designed to resist permanent deformation under all operational conditions Temperature range Crane and all of its items shall be able to operate and withstand ambient air temperatures Specified in table I TABLE I Temperatures Ranges EXPOSURE CATEGO
